Core Technology & Working Principle
A ribbon mixer is a convection machine, not a shear machine. It does not disperse or grind; it moves the whole charge through itself until the composition is uniform. That is why it handles free-flowing powders and heavy pastes equally well but is the wrong choice for wetting powder into a liquid. When a product is too stiff for the ribbon to fluidize at all, the correct machine is a planetary mixer rather than a larger ribbon.
▲ Counter-Flow Ribbon Pair
The outer ribbon is wound in one direction and the inner ribbon in the other. Material at the ends is driven inward by the outer flight while material at the center is driven outward by the inner flight, so the charge circulates as two opposing streams instead of rotating as a single mass. That counter-flow is what eliminates the end dead zones a single-flight screw leaves behind.
▲ U-Trough Geometry
The trough is a half-cylinder, which matches the swept volume of the ribbon with no corners for material to pack into. The working fill ratio sits between 0.4 and 0.6 of total volume, high enough to load a full batch and low enough to leave headspace for the ribbon to turn freely through the charge.
▲ End or Bottom Discharge
Discharge is by a valve at one end of the trough or across the full bottom, sized so the batch empties without an operator raking material out. The valve type follows the product: a slide gate for free-flowing powder, a knife gate for paste that would bridge across a smaller opening.
Precision Engineered Details
The ribbon, the shaft seals and the discharge valve decide whether a ribbon mixer stays clean and stays running. All three are fabricated and machined in the same Wuxi plant as the trough, together with the high speed disperser frames used on the wet side of the same plants.
PRM Series Technical Parameters
Eight trough sizes run from 0.5 to 15 cubic meters. Drive power scales from 5.5 kW at 0.5 m3 to 75 kW at 15 m3, while agitator speed falls from 66 rpm to 17 rpm as the trough grows, so tip speed stays inside a workable band across the whole range. Working capacity is 0.4 to 0.6 of total volume.
