Core Technology & Working Principle
A disperser does not grind. It wets powder out and breaks agglomerates down to their primary particle size by feeding them into a high-velocity shear zone at the edge of a spinning disc. Everything about the PDM is arranged around getting powder into that zone fast, and keeping the batch circulating so material is not left sitting on the tank wall.
▲ Cowles Disc Shear Zone
The toothed disc accelerates product radially outward at its rim, where the velocity difference between disc edge and bulk material does the dispersing work. Product deflects up and down the tank wall and returns to the center, forming a controlled vortex that keeps pulling unmixed material into the shear zone.
▲ Hydraulic Lift and Tank Clamp
A heavy hydraulic column raises the disc clear of the tank rim for cleaning and lowers it to the working depth without shimming. The mechanical clamp, or the optional belt clamp on larger frames, locks the vessel to the base so the vortex cannot rotate or walk it.
▲ Variable Frequency Drive
The VFD spans the full 0 to 1450 rpm range, so the same machine can fold light powder in slowly at low speed without dusting, then open up to full tip speed for the de-agglomeration stage.

Target Application Spectrum

Wetting pigment and extender into the let-down vehicle before fine grinding, at low to medium viscosity.
