Silicone sealant is a thick, non-flowing paste. It does not pour, it does not pump easily, and any air mixed in shows up later as bubbles in the cured seal. A good production line is built around that: a vacuum mixer that handles the viscosity, a press-out machine that pushes the paste out of the tank, and a filling machine that packs it into cartridges or sausages.
This guide shows how the three stages fit together, how to choose between a planetary mixer and a three-shaft mixer, and what drives the price of the line.
A silicone sealant production line built around vacuum mixing and a hydraulic press-out machine.
| Stage | Equipment | What It Does | Price Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Mixing | Vacuum double planetary mixer or vacuum three-shaft mixer | Blends polymer, filler and additives into a uniform paste and removes air | Core |
| 2. Press-out | Hydraulic press-out machine | Pushes the thick paste out of the mixing tank without relying on suction | Mid-range |
| 3. Filling | Cartridge or sausage filling machine | Doses the paste into cartridges or foil sausages | Mid-range |
The deciding factor is viscosity. These ranges come from our current mixer lineup. Your formula, filler content and batch size decide the final choice.
| Mixer | Viscosity Range | Suited To |
|---|---|---|
| Vacuum three-shaft mixer | 200,000 – 500,000 cPs | High-solid pastes that need dispersion and scraping together |
| Vacuum double planetary mixer | Up to 1,500,000 cPs | Very thick pastes that need intensive kneading and de-aeration |
| Above 1,500,000 cPs | Contact us | Our sales engineers will confirm the configuration |
For lower viscosity bands, see our high viscosity mixer guide.
The blades rotate on their own axes while revolving around the bowl, so they cover the whole mixing area and keep paste from building up on the wall. It runs under vacuum with precise temperature control, and it handles the thickest pastes in our range. See the planetary mixer page.
Three shafts work together: a high-speed dispersing shaft, a low-speed screw shaft and a low-speed anchor shaft, with PTFE scrapers keeping the vessel wall clean. It suits pastes with a high solid content. See the three-shaft mixer guide.

Once the paste is mixed, it still has to get out of the tank. A thick silicone paste will not flow to a pump on its own, so a hydraulic press-out machine pushes it out from above. From there it goes to a cartridge or sausage filling machine. We cover each machine in its own guide: the hydraulic discharge press and the paste and cartridge filling machine.
