Core Technology & Working Principle

Emulsification happens in the gap. The rotor accelerates the product outward through a stator slot, and the droplet or agglomerate is broken in the shear layer plus the pressure recovery immediately behind it. Two things follow from that. First, the gap has to be uniform, or the shear varies around the head. Second, the head has to sit at the right depth in the vessel, or part of the batch circulates without ever going through it — which is the reason the machine is built on a lift column rather than a fixed frame.

The stator and rotor are wire-cut rather than cast, which holds concentricity and slot width across the whole generator. A uniform gap is what makes the shear history the same at every point the product passes, and that is what narrows a droplet distribution.

An enclosed hydraulic cylinder raises and lowers the head vertically, so the head can be positioned at the working depth for each vessel and lifted clear for changeover. Vertical travel is also what lets one machine serve several tanks.

The machine interfaces with mobile tanks and base clamping fixtures, so the shear step is decoupled from the vessel count. On a multi-color or multi-product plant this is the arrangement that keeps the capital cost on one drive instead of one per tank.

Wire-Cut Stator and Rotor

The generator in SS304 or SS316L, cut rather than cast. Slot width and concentricity are the two numbers that set the shear, and both are held by the cutting process.

Fixed Environmental Dust Cover

The cover closes the vessel for the high-speed phase: solvent vapour stays in, powder dusting stays out, and the batch is not open to the room while it is being sheared.

Operation Panel

A conventional push-button panel with the interlocks on the door rather than the drive. Explosion-proof configurations are available upon request, matched to the classification of the area at the point of specification.

Variable Frequency Drive

Speed is trimmed by a VFD rather than fixed by gearing, which is what allows one head to be worked at a lower tip speed on a delicate emulsion and at full speed on a robust one.

PYR Technical Parameters

Four models cover pilot through production batch sizes. Handling capacity assumes a water-like medium: the usable capacity on a viscous product is lower and has to be matched to the head diameter and drive, not to the nominal figure.

Technical FAQ

Short answers to the questions asked before specifying a hydraulic lift emulsifier.

How does a hydraulic lift column change the way a batch plant is run?

It unties the shear head from the vessel. The head is raised on a hydraulic column and lowered into whichever mobile tank is in position, so one emulsifier serves a row of vessels instead of each vessel carrying its own drive. For a plant running many colors or many short batches, that is the difference between one machine and several.

Why is the stator and rotor wire-cut rather than cast or machined from a forging?

Because the shear gap is a tolerance, not a shape. Wire cutting holds concentricity and slot width to a fine tolerance across the whole generator, so the gap between rotor and stator stays uniform around the circumference. A gap that varies around the circle gives a shear history that varies with it, which shows up as a wider droplet distribution.

What does the fixed dust cover actually do?

It closes the vessel during the high-speed phase. That keeps solvent vapour inside the tank rather than in the room, stops powder dusting out at the point of addition, and stops the batch picking up airborne contamination. It is a working condition, not an accessory.

What batch sizes does the PYR series cover?

The four standard models cover 600, 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 litre handling capacities with 11, 22, 37 and 55 kW drives. The published capacities assume a water-like medium, so a viscous product will sit below the nominal figure and the head diameter and motor have to be matched to the real rheology.

Can the machine be supplied for solvent-based products?

Explosion-proof configurations are available upon request, with the motor and the control package matched to the classification of the area the machine will sit in. Because the requirement is site-specific, the classification should be stated when the machine is specified rather than assumed afterwards.

What decides the shaft speed for a given emulsion?

The tip speed needed at the head, not the motor speed. Tip speed scales with head diameter, so a large head reaches the same shear at a lower shaft speed. That is why the shaft speed range falls as the models get larger: 0 to 2,900 rpm on the 11 kW model down to 0 to 980 rpm on the 55 kW model, and why a variable frequency drive is used to trim the working point.
