Industrial high-viscosity compounding systems (concentric dual-shaft, butterfly, helix, multi-functional triple-shaft, and 3,000,000 cPs double planetary mixers) with hydraulic ram discharge and multi-format packaging lines — direct factory engineering by POLYC.
In the commercial production of structural adhesives, silicone sealants, polyurethane mastics, and polymer pastes, process engineers confront three severe rheological bottlenecks: "How do we uniformly disperse high-density solid fillers (calcium carbonate, silica, carbon black) into non-flowing polymer bases without blade cavitation, strip micron-sized air bubbles under deep vacuum, and discharge viscous pastes cleanly into retail packaging without manual hang-up?" While conventional dispersers create cavitation caverns where the blade spins in an isolated pocket, POLYC delivers integrated processing lines engineered around non-Newtonian fluid dynamics.
Showcased extensively during the ASE Exhibition for Adhesives & Sealants in Shanghai, POLYC does not stop at the mixing vessel. We engineer the complete, connected industrial flow — from raw material charging, high-torque vacuum compounding, and Hydraulic Ram Press Discharge, through to automated multi-format packaging (cartridges, sausages, pails, and drums). This guide outlines our equipment hierarchy spanning 50,000 to over 3,000,000 cPs to help production directors select optimal agitator kinematics, mechanical seal designs, and downstream filling stations.
From pilot 5L testing units to 6,000L multi-shaft reactors and 3,000,000 cPs planetary compounding systems, POLYC provides complete engineering documentation, P&ID schematics, and single-source project accountability.

Match your processing equipment to fluid rheology, filler loading percentage, thixotropic recovery, and packaging requirements:
Process Profile: Compounding high-viscosity silane-modified polymers with treated fumed silica and nano-calcium carbonate without moisture contamination.
Optimal Configuration: Vacuum Helix Mixer or Double Planetary Mixer operating at -0.098 MPa. The vertical auger flight forces floating silica into the dispersion blades, while nitrogen purging and deep vacuum prevent premature curing.
Process Profile: Highly thixotropic pastes requiring rapid temperature control during exothermic prepolymer chain extension.
Optimal Configuration: Dual-Shaft Butterfly Mixer with jacketed vessel and PTFE scrapers. The angled butterfly wings ensure intensive top-to-bottom turnover, preventing local thermal hotspots that cause gelling.
Process Profile: Processing massive batches (1,200L to 6,000L) containing over 70% solid mineral fillers with low liquid resin volume.
Optimal Configuration: Concentric Dual-Shaft Mixer. Outer low-speed frame sweeps the perimeter while centered dual Cowles discs wet out dry powders instantly, preventing heavy mineral settling at the base.
Process Profile: Extreme viscosities (1,500,000 to 3,000,000 cPs) with zero tolerance for micro-air bubbles or metallic contamination.
Optimal Configuration: Double Planetary Mixer with twisted spiral blades and Gantry Hydraulic Ram Press. Complete mechanical sweep leaves zero dead zones, and hydraulic extrusion fills syringes bubble-free.
Integrated vacuum mixing, hydraulic ram press, and automated filling.
Customizable working heads: dispersing discs, emulsifiers, and paddles.
Symmetrical high-shear dispersion combined with PTFE boundary scraping.
Twisted spiral blades for extreme non-flowing sealants up to 3,000,000 cPs.
No single dual-shaft geometry solves every rheological profile. POLYC manufactures three distinct configurations:
• Concentric Dual-Shaft: Built with an outer hollow shaft driving a low-speed anchor frame with PTFE scrapers (15–40 rpm) and an inner solid shaft driving high-speed Cowles discs (300–1,200 rpm). Force vectors are perfectly symmetrical, eliminating shaft deflection in dense slurries.
• Butterfly Agitator: Features angled 3D butterfly wings that scoop high-viscosity paste upward and fold it toward the center, delivering high axial turnover and eliminating stagnant wall rings.
• Helix (Auger) Mixer: Combines the butterfly profile with a continuous vertical helical auger flight. As the outer ribbon cleans the vessel wall for cooling, the central auger pushes thick paste downward into the high-shear dispersion zone, preventing product ride-up.
Reactive sealants and specialty thermal pastes require independent, multi-action processing within a single vacuum vessel.
POLYC customizes the working head across three parallel shafts driven by dedicated motors: Shaft 1 handles high-torque anchor scraping; Shaft 2 drives high-speed Cowles dispersing discs (22–28 m/s tip speed) for powder de-agglomeration; and Shaft 3 integrates either an inline rotor-stator emulsifying head (for sub-micron droplet sizing) or auxiliary helical augers for downward forced circulation. Each shaft is modulated independently via ABB variable frequency drives (VFD).
When formulations approach the consistency of heavy modeling clay or butyl rubber, central-axis rotation fails because the batch spins as a solid plug.
The POLYC Double Planetary Mixer deploys two heavy-duty twisted spiral blades that rotate on their own axes while simultaneously orbiting the vessel circumference. Engineered with 2–5 mm mechanical clearance to the vessel wall and dish bottom, the orbiting tools continuously fold, compress, and re-laminate the material. Operating under -0.098 MPa vacuum, this planetary path extracts micro-voids and eliminates pinholes in cured joints.
Non-flowing sealants cannot be discharged via centrifugal pumps or gravity without cavitation and air entrainment.
POLYC engineers complete downstream extrusion systems featuring Gantry Hydraulic Ram Presses. A precision-machined platen with dual silicone/Viton wiper seals descends into the mobile tank with up to 200 bar of hydraulic pressure, forcing the paste through bottom ports directly into downstream filling systems. We configure automated filling machines for: 310ml silicone cartridges, 400–600ml foil sausages, 20L pails, 200L bulk drums, and dual-barrel medical syringes.
When evaluating commercial quotations for turnkey adhesive manufacturing equipment, capital investment is determined by four core engineering specifications:
Equipment pricing scales directly with torque requirements. Mixing low-viscosity 50,000 cPs sealants uses standard cycloidal reducers, whereas processing 3,000,000 cPs pastes requires heavy-duty planetary gearboxes, hardened helical-bevel gear drives, and reinforced chassis to absorb massive torsional back-pressures.
Atmospheric mixers cost significantly less but produce porous adhesives. Upgrading to a deep vacuum system (-0.098 MPa / ≤20 mbar) requires precision double-acting mechanical seals, dynamic magnetic fluid couplings, heavy domed vessel heads, and liquid-ring vacuum pump stations.
Industrial SUS304 represents the standard baseline. For reactive UV cure adhesives, biomedical hydrogels, or corrosive sealants, upgrading to SUS316L with full mirror polishing ($Ra \le 0.4\,\mu\text{m}$) or tungsten carbide wear coatings on high-speed blades increases fabrication costs while extending machine life.
A standalone mixing vessel requires minimal automation. Turnkey plants incorporating hydraulic gantry ram discharge presses, automated cartridge indexing tables, volumetric piston fillers, plunger insertion robots, and continuous foil sausage clippers reflect complete turnkey line investment.
